The Big Ukulele Chord Quiz 2

Time to test your chord knowledge and musical ear. It’s pretty low tech:

– Grab a pen and paper.
– Answer the questions (using a ukulele to help you is entirely allowed and encouraged).
– There might be spoilers in the comments.
Check the answers here (no peeking).
– Return in triumph or despair and share you score in the comments(some of these questions are pretty tricky, so not too much despair). And I’d be interested to know which rounds you found easy and which were hard.

Nice quiz! (Btw, I found the chord makeup part the most difficult) Just one request of maybe an Ed Sheeran tab or two…
But anyway great website overall, it’s helped me a lot over the years, THANKS :)

Toby: Thanks so much! That bit taxes my brain the most too.

That was fun! 18/20. I can’t hear the difference between Am and Am6 immediately. Great website for learning and fun!

  6. Throwdown July 7th, 2016 5:43 pm

Can you explain what a Am* is, what does the * signify?

  7. Vikram July 7th, 2016 8:58 pm

I’m lovin it, keep em coming bro!

  8. Keren July 7th, 2016 9:21 pm

Great quiz. I got 18/20. Muddled up Amaj7 and A6.
Thanks for the test and all your amazing work.

    Susan: Congrats! Thanks very much!

Throwdown: Where are you seeing the *?

Vikram: Thanks very much! Will do.

    Keren: Well done! And thanks!

I did pretty good on the first section, a little worse on each successive test, completely gave up on chord makeup and managed to get through the last section with a lot of playing and listening. I’m glad there wasn’t a time limit. I have to admit, I’m not the greatest at remembering the names of some of the chords I play. I tend to remember the chords to songs visually and by muscle memory. Not proud of my score, but I’ll just say I got more right than wrong … barely.

Sailed through the first two sections and stumbled badly (in a kind of flat on my face sort of way) thereafter. I know what I play and what sounds right in context (especially with other players), but I don’t perhaps have the trained ear that can name a chord from its sound. And what notes go to make up a chord remains somewhat mysterious.

Glenn: I’d say 50% is a passing grad so you’re good!

Mark: That’s a good skill to have.
